Epic - Ramayana And/Or Mahabharata

It was an interesting argument with a friend of mine who is a firm believer in Hindu Dharma, about the two great epics Ramayana and Mahabharata. Before I divulge any further details a disclaimer: I am a Hindu, but I dont believe in the Dharma or Gods. I may have in my short lifespan visited temples, gurdwaras, mosques or any other place of worship but mostly it was for my mean motive "Bhagwan muje marks ache dilwa dena" "Meree life achee ker dena bhagwan", but all this doesnt make me atheist. Please no communal remarks on me!

The crux of the discussion follows from my experiences. The argument was God exists in form of Shri. Ramachandra Ji and Ramayana focusses on what you should be as a human. While Mahabharata tells you what you should not be. Great words and thoughts here.! My response to this in a lighter vein was Mahabharata is what is presently happening day in and day out, while Ramayana is irrelevant. Both these still sell the most copies of DVDs/VCDs/airtime on various channels.

My experience tells me, I went to pray to set my life straight and requesting God to help me in that, even if it meant that his intervention happens in any form. Hey! But thats the conclusion of Mahabharata isn't it. Mahabharata was probably the first ever writing which narrated to the world what Rajniti (Politics) is. Thats whats happening everyday.

Lets say if the world presently is same as the one during the ages of Ramayana then it makes Osama the Ravana, so does it also make George Bush/Tony Blair Ramachandra? It does follow the logic. Isnt it?! If Bush is Shri. Rama then me and many more anti-Bush may be cursing him for nothing.

For me Ramayana and Mahabharata were two really good stories. What I follow myself and may be some of you do daily is the new worlds learnings, what may come out of movies! like "Saving Private Ryan" "Forrest Gump" "We Were Soldiers" "Shawshank Redemption" and above all "Schindler's List". Its important we love/like/live with peace in our lives and that would bring everything in order.

And my favorite line "Pay taxes rightly and donate blood/funds for good causes" if everyone does that I think we will be living in the best format for this world!
