Jodhaa Akbar

Having watched Jodhaa Akbar today, I can only say following about the movie. One its grandly done/overdone to display the talented Mr. Ashutosh Gowarikar and that the movie is still running packed houses because of the mass publicity and star cast.

The story of the movie seems to be too far away from actual realities of the history. There must be some 100 different 2-3min scenes through the movie which keep on coming and going, hence even if you are 30 minutes late into the show you have not lost anything of the plot. Beacause the director has tried to display everything he could manage in the stretched budget and if given a choice he may have made sequels or could have made a movie which may have lasted 10 hours. None of the scenes is catchy enough, where you could have said hey this is good. The only exception to this as per me was when during the song Khwaja Mere Khwaja Hrithik (Akbar) gets passionate about Allah and lost in his prayers he starts dancing under the stars. Its a very well executed scene, and Hrithik does it really well.

Nothing in the movie moves you so much so that you may have shed the usual tear in the movie hall. The only thing I ended up appreciating is that due to the grandeur created in the plot (1000s of people together in many scenes), the movie has given short term employment to many tv artistes and junior artistes. You could see many actors from the serial Circus, or movies Swadesh - We The People and Lagaaan. All of these where Mr. Gowarikar had his presence big time!
