It was such exciting thing to discuss that I happen to write my second blog of the day. Practically you could call this to be the next day as its already 3AM of 2nd March 2008. I happened to chat with my junior from IIT more than a junior a very close friend Kapil Shukla who also was the "Hockey" player of H3.
H3, all my IITB friends know its how we call our beloved hostel. Yes I stayed put in Hostel 3, IIT Bombay. About 1.5 km from Main Gate, 1.75 km from Y Point, 1 Km from Girls Hostel H10 and few meters off the SAC (Student Activity Centre). I was discussing with Kapil about the screw ups I am making in some aptitude tests, and reasons good or not so good for not having done well. He said, Come on Mahajan H3 H3! Yes that was our "Naara" slogan, for anything and everything. If you know you will give your best for the Hostel you had to shout at top of your voice H3 H3. As a fresher, your only contribution to hostel is to shout at top of your voice H3 H3. Its two times in a row and N times in a session.
You may be running in the inter-hostel crossy, or playing inter-hostel cricket, or in inter-hostel drama competitions H3 H3 would greet you anywhere and everywhere. These sounds may not get heard during examinations though. But I am sure outside the lecture halls, convocation centre and especially outside H2 they used to be the loudest.
I stayed in Rooms 138, 372 and 374 of H3 through 5 yrs of my life. I have loads of memories of hostel and rooms and wings. My wing GMKs. You may now get 372 in the user name comes from my room number. As recently as 6 months back I stayed at the hostel for two days. Things have changed, inter-hostel competitions which were the lifelines have been curtailed by the management. To support any inter-hostel event the slogan was only what was required.
Water fights with H2, spoiling their mess and TV rooms during the fresher years. It seemed as if H3 H3 was a soul inspiring jingle.
Ultimately my 5 year stay came to an end, I had the option to shift hostel in the last year of my stay as many others did. But for me H3ism was too hot to handle. The mess workers Thapa, Paul and Joshi Ji who had made some good food for us to relish couldnt have been replaced. H3 gave me a lot in my life to cherish, so I had to give something back in return. With lots of sweet memories I sign off.
Good Night and Good Luck!
