I have been in real estate for almost 2 years now and being in the business need to be proactively tracking infrastructure developments in various cities. Also for last 2 years I have been Hyderabad. Now even if I wasnt in real estate but in Hyderabad and would frequently use my car and fly in & out of the new Hyderabad international airport, I would have cribbed when in another city.
Because "I am spoilt Now" by a clean green city, with wide roads, relatively smoother traffic and a great great Airport. I used to Begumpet airport frequently till it existed, at this point I would also boast that my present Boss was the COO of the new airport :-). I was flying out of Kolkata yesterday, the flight was a 0650 hrs flight to Hyderabad and after an extremely tiring previous day I had to first manage to get up and then get to airport in time. Thanks to my bad health which didnt let me sleep properly and the wake up call by the Hotel staff that I was ready in time to leave. The driver was late and we had to rush to the airport, like every other thing in Kolkata moves slowly so does the VIPs. Used to Delhi VIP movements I was surprised that early morning a white ambassador escorted by several policeman was hardly moving at 30kmph and blocked the entire road. May be the minister's daughter was learning to drive.
I rushed into the airport only to find the place in commotion, the conveyors werent functioning. Kingfisher counters were thronged by people as if at a bus stand, the porters were moving checked in luggage on trolleys and there were two U shaped queues to the security check. Still no one was panicking because thats how the city functions. The policeman at security check mentioned to me that we need more x-ray machines, on this a socialist party representative would only say please dont put additional machines otherwise it may reduce employment. I breathed a sigh of relief when at Hyderabad airport, I never step inside this airport without admiring its passenger friendliness. Its extremely comfortable and arrivals or departures. It spoitl me so badly that I compare mumbai, delhi and all other airports to this one.
There is no need for baggage screening here, hence everywhere I go i end up forgetting to screen my baggage. You just keep walking straight to security check, while everywhere else you need to figure out your way to security check. There is a large shopping area and food court, for a few extra bucks you can eat what you would like to eat. And also available is beer at every food joint
The city brings a good night sleep every day for me, where else will i stay on a terrace flat overlooking a small lake and a five star hotel and not crib about the expenditure on rent.
I am scared at a thought of leaving the city and settling else where, which is one day very soon, highly likely. This one is in praise of city of nawabs.
